This year, OSSTF/FEESO continues to sponsor the Moose Hide Campaign. This campaign is a grassroots movement of Indigenous and non-Indigenous men and boys who not only stand against violence towards Indigenous women and girls, but who make a promise to never hurt women or girls. Wearing the moose hide pins signifies commitment to honour, respect, and protect the women and children in your life and to work together to end violence against women and children in our communities.
The mission of the Moose Hide Campaign is to end violence towards women and children by creating awareness with the distribution of over 10 million moose hide squares across Canada. Indigenous women are three times more likely to experience domestic violence than non-Indigenous women, and three times more likely than non-Indigenous women to be killed by someone they know. Every 2.5 days, a woman or girl is murdered in Canada. It is time for us to change this.
As a District or Bargaining unit, we are encouraging you to order Moose Hide pins and cards for every male member of your District. There is no cost to order pins. In return for the pins, the campaign only asks you to tell them about the impact of the Moose Hide campaign on your life, community, or workplace. You can order them by visiting the link below.
Please consider doing the following:
- Promote healthy masculinity in your worksite
- Write up a short description of what you will/are doing to support the Moose Hide Campaign
- Share a story on your social media that demonstrates how you are using the Moose Hide pins to create awareness
- Sponsor a Moose Hide fast or another event (for more information, visit the link below)
- Take a photo(s) and let everyone know the significance of the pins and if you’re planning any actions to coincide with the campaign. Don’t forget to tag the #moosehidecampaign, #OSSTF and #FEESO.
