Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Franco-Ontarian Day DBU #030/2025-2026

In 2025, Franco-Ontarians across Ontario are proudly celebrating the 50th anniversary of the green and white flag, first raised in Sudbury in 1975. This milestone honors the resilience, culture, and contributions of Ontario’s French-speaking communities. The flag, featuring a white fleur-de-lys and a green trillium, symbolizes both the global Francophone identity and Ontario’s provincial pride. The anniversary, marked on September 25, is not only a celebration but also a call to action to protect and promote the rich heritage of French-speaking Ontarians for generations to come.
Leading up to the day, we encourage members to share activities, resources and information with students and within their workspaces. Many schools, offices and communities are planning celebrations using the many resources available online, such as:
AFO | Franco-Ontarian Day (bilingual)
On September 25, ALL members are encouraged to bring an OSSTF/FEESO presence to events, to take pictures and to forward those pictures to provincial office. Please let provincial office know if you are aware of, and/or attending, events not on the list of official flag-raising events in Ontario (found in Attach 1 and at Interactive map – Monuments de la Francophonie de l’Ontario)
All OSSTF/FEESO members are encouraged to celebrate this anniversary throughout the year with students, with colleagues and within communities. Provincial office would welcome receiving the details and pictures of those celebrations throughout the year (particularly by April 3, 2026).
Information and photos thankfully received by Rosemary Judd-Archer via email at rosemary.judd-archer@osstf.ca and Nancy Desjardins at nancy.desjardins@osstf.ca with a CC to photos@osstf.ca.
