Violence Prevention, Response, and Policy in Ontario Schools
In ongoing efforts to develop strategies to combat school violence, OSSTF/FEESO is encouraging teacher and education worker members in the K-12 sector to participate in a new research study examining educators’ experiences with school violence, anti-violence policies, and reporting practices in Ontario schools. This study is being conducted by Maria Brisbane (PhD Candidate, University of Waterloo).
The study invites members to share their perspectives on how violence prevention policies are implemented, how reporting practices function in schools, and how educators navigate the daily realities of maintaining safe learning environments. This research will contribute to a deeper organizational understanding of the policy, cultural, and structural factors that shape violence prevention and response in Ontario schools.
Brisbane aims to recruit up to 50 teachers and education workers from secondary schools across the province to participate in 60-minute interviews. The interviews will be conducted on Zoom.
Participation in this study is voluntary. Interviews will be conducted in English only.
We encourage all members to support research that strengthens our collective understanding of the conditions affecting members’ safety, wellbeing, and professional practice.
If you are interested in participating, or if you have questions about the study, please contact Maria Brisbane at: maria.brisbane@uwaterloo.ca.
