OSSTF/FEESO recognized for international assistance

Representatives from the UNHCR (far left and far right) are recognized by OSSTF/FEESO with a ceremonial cheque presentation at a District 12 Professional Development day in Toronto on February 15. Derik Chica, OSSTF/FEESO Provincial Human Rights Committee member (inside left) and Domenic Bellissimo, Director of the OSSTF/FEESO Communications/Political Action Department (inside right) were on hand for the ceremony.

OSSTF/FEESO extends its education, labour, and social solidarity around the world, in part through our International Assistance Program. Annually, the Federation commits funds to support projects that reflect our commitment to protecting and enhancing public education, social justice, and equality in various parts of the world.

For over 20 years OSSTF/FEESO has funded projects and programs ranging from specialized training and education for girls and women, to support for well-water projects, to helping with the purchase classroom materials for schools in developing nations.

Part of this work has supported projects of the United Nations High Commissioner on Refugees. This past month, UNHCR, The Refugee Agency, recognized OSSTF/FEESO’s ongoing commitment to international development, the rights of educational workers, access to free and open education, community literacy and numeracy, and empowerment opportunities for girls and young women. A ceremonial cheque presentation was hosted by the UNHCR as part of their presentation at a District 12 Professional Development day in Toronto on February 15. Derik Chica, OSSTF/FEESO Provincial Human Rights Committee member, and Domenic Bellissimo, Director of the OSSTF/FEESO Communications/Political Action Department, were on hand for the ceremony at Toronto’s West Hill Collegiate.
