Call for focus group members—Joint OSSTF/FEESO & JUMP Math partnership

OSSTF/FEESO is partnering with JUMP Math to produce a new Grade 9 Math resource. JUMP Math is a charitable organization that is dedicated to “replacing math anxiety with an understanding and love of math in students and teachers.” Currently, the JUMP math program is available for students in kindergarten to Grade 8. The program provides student and teacher resources that use “structured inquiry” to teach math. More information on the program, including research results from an efficacy study conducted by Sick Kids, can be found at www.jumpmath.org.

The Provincial Executive is looking for 10 members interested in being part of a focus group to review and provide feedback on a draft JUMP Math resource for Grade 9 teachers and students. Chosen team members will receive copies of the draft resource for review and testing and will participate in periodic teleconferences between January 2022 and June 2022.

Applicants must have:

  • a solid understanding of the current Grade 9 math curriculum,
  • recent experience teaching Grade 9 math (within the last three years)
  • an interest in trying a new approach to reducing the achievement gap some students experience in math
  • a willingness to provide input and suggestions re: the draft JUMP Math resource

Members must complete the application form below and upload both a cover letter and a letter of recommendation from your local Bargaining Unit president or District president.

Deadline for applications is 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 3, 2021.

Successful applicants as determined by the Provincial Executive will be notified and provided with further details.

For further information, contact Rob Dubyk or by phone at 800-267-7867/416-751-8300.
