JAYU’s 10th Annual Human Rights Film Festival (HRFF+)

Your class is invited to two very special virtual events as part of JAYU’s 10th Annual Human Rights Film Festival (HRFF+)!

Join us for the virtual screenings of:

Between Fire and Water on December 3rd at 1 p.m.: The story of Camilo, a Black man adopted into an Indigenous tribe in Colombia. He’s the only Black person in his community and has always faced discrimination because of this. To connect with his own history, the Indigenous Quillasinga-governor gives him Ayahuasca, a sacred remedy for spiritual guidance and during this transcendent experience Camilo has visions of his biological mother

End of the Line—The Women of Standing Rock on December 9th at 1 p.m.: Follows a group of Indigenous women risking their lives to stop the Dakota Access oil pipeline that desecrated their ancient burial and prayer sites and threatens their land, water, and very existence. In the process, they must face the personal costs of leadership, even as their own lives and identities are transformed by one of the great political and cultural events of the early 21st century.

The links for both films will be distributed at 12:30 p.m. on both days, and you’ll have access to watch them until 11:59 p.m. Both films will be followed by a live Q&A with the filmmakers, so your class can ask questions.

This event has limited capacity, so sign-up ASAP!

  1. I am a retired teacher and Life Member of OSSTF.
I’m very active locally, provincially, and nationally on matters such as Agroecology, organic/biodynamic farming, the environment, human rights, anti-racism, indigenous sovereignty, and related issues.
I recommend that all Members have access to functions such as the Human Rights Film Festival. They may be of value in work related to community education and organizing.
