More Inclusion for Visually Impaired and Deaf students required during Emergency Remote Learning

On January 6, 2022, the Provincial Schools Authority Teachers (PSAT) and Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU), wrote to the Honorable Stephen Lecce to address their concerns with the decision to close lodging to students at Provincial Schools.

“Staff, students, and families are concerned that there was no consultation before the decision was made or consideration for alternative lodging accommodations for vulnerable students who cannot travel and participate in provincial day programs,” commented OSSTF/FEESO District 30 President Tamara Witcher. “This decision presents considerable inequities for the students and families who can only access the specialized and exceptional resources and support that Deaf, hard of hearing, blind, and low vision students need to learn.”
