Moose Hide Campaign Day 2022—NEW DATE: May 12, 2022

Moose Hide Campaign, Campagne Moose Hide

On a 2011 August morning, an Indigenous man, Paul Lacerte, and his daughter Raven were hunting moose near the infamous Highway of Tears, a section of highway between Prince George and Prince Rupert, B.C., where dozens of women have gone missing or been found murdered. They had brought down a moose to help feed the family for the winter and provide a moose hide for cultural purposes. They decided to use the moose hide to inspire men and boys to become involved in ending violence towards women and children. Together with family and friends, they cut up the moose hide into small squares and started the Moose Hide Campaign. Thanks to many organizations who support the Moose Hide campaign, more than 2.5 million pins have been distributed since 2011.

OSSTF/FEESO members have supported the Moose Hide Campaign for six years. This year, the Moose Hide Campaign Day is May 12, 2022. On this day, OSSTF/FEESO members are encouraged to join together to stand against violence towards women and children and take practical steps for our collective journey of reconciliation.

The Moose Hide Campaign site offers open registration for anyone who wishes to participate and contains resources, shareable posters, social media content, and order forms for official moose hide pins.

On May 12, 2022, take a stand against violence against Indigenous women and children. Take the time to learn more about the Moose Hide Campaign Day and honour those women and children that Indigenous communities have lost due to violence.
