Equity Mentorship Program 2022-2024 Statement of Interest: Mentor

AMPA 2022 approved the installment of a 2-year Equity Mentorship Program (EMP). The timing commitments for this first 2-year cohort of mentors is as follows:

Year 1 (2022-2023)
•           Mentor/Mentee Group Sessions (3 Full Days – spaced out in the year)
•           Mentor/Mentee Pair Experiences (3 Days – as needed)

Year 2 (2023-2024)
•           Mentor/Mentee Group Sessions (3 Full Days – spaced out in the year)
•           Mentor/Mentee Pair Experiences (3 Days – as needed)
•           Evaluation Day (1 Day – in spring)

The EMP aims to address the expressed needs of mentees and support the desired growth of mentees, mentors and the organization as a whole. The EMP is seeking 10 Members who wish to be involved in this 2-year program as mentors.

Release time costs and travel/accommodation expenses will be covered by the EMP.

OSSTF/FEESO is dedicated to equity, anti-racism and anti-oppression while protecting and enhancing public education. OSSTF/FEESO values the participation of members with various lived experiences. Candidates for mentor on the EMP will be Members interested in sharing their knowledge of, and participation in, OSSTF/FEESO with an eye to building capacity within others (ie. their mentee) to build leadership within the organization. Based on the expressed needs of the 2022-2024 Equity Mentorship mentees, we are seeking Members who have experience with:

  • Human Rights / Social Justice
  • Health and Safety
  • District/Bargaining Unit operations, governance and electoral processes
  • Provincial Committees/Councils/Work Groups

In addition, we are looking for Members who:

  • have parental/custodial responsibilities
  • identify as Black and/or racialized
  • are able to commit to the full length of the Equity Mentorship Program.
