OSSTF/FEESO Commissioned Study on Workplace Violence
Every worker has the right to a safe work environment. Unfortunately, many OSSTF/FEESO members in the K-12 sector experience violence and harassment in the workplace, from students, parents, administrators, and colleagues. This violence can be physical, but it also includes psychological violence, such as swearing, verbal abuse, racism, and other oppressive acts. Just as violent acts can be physical or psychological in nature, so too can the impact of violence be physical or psychological. All forms of violence and their impacts need to be addressed.
OSSTF/FEESO is deeply committed to promoting members’ safety, through joint occupational health and safety committees, enforcing collective agreements, and advocating for policies and practices that protect workers.
An essential part of fighting for worker safety is having a comprehensive and nuanced understanding of how violence occurs in members’ workplaces. To help with this, OSSTF/FEESO has commissioned a study on workplace violence through Strategic Communications Inc. (Stratcom).
OSSTF/FEESO is strongly encouraging all members working in K-12 to participate in this study, regardless of whether they have directly experienced violence themselves.
All members in K-12 who have provided OSSTF/FEESO with a personal email address will receive an email invitation with a link to complete the survey. The survey will be available in both French and English.
Participation is completely voluntary and personal information will be kept confidential.
If you have any questions relating to updating your personal email address, please contact Membership.Database@osstf.ca or by phone at 416-751-8300 or 1-800-267-7867.
