Member Update on English and French De-Streaming – Technical Briefing

On June 16, 2023, the Ministry of Education provided a technical briefing to OSSTF/FEESO, OECTA, ETFO, AEFO, to provide an overview of their plans for Languages, Grades 1-8, Français 1ᵉ à la 8ᵉ année, English Grade 9, and Français 9ᵉ année.

OSSTF/FEESO continues to voice its disappointment with the Ministry of Education in its ineffective and disordered plan to roll out their de-streaming curriculum. The revised English and French curriculum are simply the most recent examples of its failed attempts; without improving timelines, providing the necessary professional development, and availability of wrap around resources for students.

Since 2020, OSSTF/FEESO has consistently advocated for dedicated funding and resources to support de-streaming. Unfortunately, yet again, the Ministry of Education appears to undertake a hasty, ill-prepared, and under-funded curriculum release that does not set up students and educators for success.
