Multi-University Study on Recertification Pathways for Internationally Educated Teachers

Fair and effective pathways to Canadian certification for Internationally Educated Teachers (IETs) are vital for ensuring the meaningful inclusion of newcomer teachers in Canada and helping address looming teacher shortages. For its value from both equity and professional perspectives, OSSTF/FEESO is pleased to endorse a study into recertification pathways for IETs and is encouraging all eligible members to participate.

The study is being conducted by Dr. Lilach Marom (Simon Fraser University) and colleagues from the University of British Columbia (UBC), the University of Alberta, and Queen’s University. Dr. Marom’s research team includes scholars who are IETs, migrants, and those who work in programs around Canada that support recertification of IETs. Findings will produce recommendations for policy makers, regulatory bodies and academic institutions.

Members are eligible to participate if they are an Internationally Educated Teacher. This includes IETs who successfully recertified after 2014, regardless of whether they are currently working in the Canadian School system, and IETs who did not complete the recertification process.

The survey is available in English only. To participate, click HERE.

If you have any questions about the study, please contact Dr. Lilach Marom at lilach.marom@sfu.ca.
