Application to the 2SLGBTQIA+ Committee

Motions carried at Annual Meeting of the Provincial Assembly (AMPA) 2024 to create a new standing committee, the 2SLGBTQIA+ Committee for 2024-2025. The Committee will be comprised of up to 12 Members:

  • up to 7 Members who identify as part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community appointed by the Provincial Council;
  • one non-voting Member appointed by the Provincial Council who, if possible, identifies as part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community from its Members, who will act as liaison between the Provincial Council and the 2SLGBTQIA+ Committee;
  • one non-voting Member from the Provincial Executive appointed by the President, who will act as liaison between the Provincial Executive and the 2SLGBTQIA+ Committee;
  • up to 2 Members who identify as part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community may be co-opted; and
  • one non-voting Secretariat Member assigned by the General Secretary.

In the inaugural year of the 2SLGBTQIA+ Committee, Provincial Council shall appoint 5 members to a three-year term, 2 members to a two-year term, and 2 members to a one-year term which shall be considered co-options for the purpose of nominations to committees and councils in the following year.

Members may only serve on one Provincial standing committee or council at a time, which applies to all standing committees and all deliberative standing councils to which Members are appointed.

A reminder that upon the completion of a maximum of one-term and one co-option, or three co-options on any committee or council when appointed by Provincial Council or a committee or council, members will be ineligible to serve on any committee or council for one Federation Year.

Members selected to be part of the committee must be able to secure release time from their employer. While time release for all meeting dates is paid for by the Provincial Office, applicants should verify with their local President that there are no restrictions for time release from their Bargaining Unit.

The application must be submitted on-time to be considered. The deadline is May 24, 2024 for term vacancies. Applications received after that time will be considered late and will only be considered for appointment if there are insufficient on-time applications. Please note, the deadline for co-option applications is May 24, 2024.
