Children’s Mental Health Ontario Conference—November 17–19, 2024

OSSTF/FEESO remains steadfast in its commitment to championing the crucial role of Professional Student Service Personnel (PSSP) members in providing support and counselling to children and youth grappling with mental health concerns. The Children’s Mental Health Ontario (CHMO) conference, an annual event hosted by the umbrella organization representing mental health service providers for children and youth in Ontario, serves as a pivotal platform for advancing this cause. While the conference’s theme is yet to be unveiled, the dates are set for November 17–19, 2024, in Toronto.

The funding, approved at the Annual Meeting of the Provincial Assembly (AMPA), presents a unique opportunity for up to ten local leaders (not necessarily presidents) who represent PSSP members to attend the November 17–19, 2024, CMHO conference. This is not just a chance to attend a prestigious event, but also an opportunity for personal and professional growth. Those selected will be expected to attend the entire conference and to meet with assigned staff on the evening of Sunday, November 17, 2024, to coordinate common messaging that underscores the importance of PSSP roles in supporting the mental health needs of children and youth.

Applicants should demonstrate strong lobbying skills, know the roles of PSSP members within the district school boards who provide mental health services to students, and desire to represent OSSTF/FEESO at this venue. The Provincial Executive will endeavour to select a team representative of varied work sites and job classes.

Members must be able to obtain time release (paid for by OSSTF/FEESO) and be willing to travel to Toronto. Applicants should verify with their local President that there are no time release restrictions from their Bargaining Unit. Provincial Office administrative staff will also contact Bargaining Unit Presidents regarding the availability of individuals being considered. Individuals selected to participate in the conference and their Bargaining Unit President will be notified following approval by the Provincial Executive.

If you are interested in participating in the OSSTF/FEESO group attending the CMHO conference, please complete and submit the following application by June 11, 2024.

OSSTF/FEESO values the participation of members with various lived experiences. We actively seek and welcome applications from members of First Nations, Métis, Inuit, and equity-seeking groups.
