Call for the Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF/FCE) Committee Applications
The Canadian Teacher’s Federation (CTF/FCE) is a non-profit organization and a national alliance of provincial and territorial member organizations and associate organizations, including OSSTF/FEESO. As a member of CTF/FCE, OSSTF/FEESO is a part of a group of 16 Member Organizations that seeks to support a country where public education is valued and supported. Together, member organizations work as part of the CTF/FCE to promote and support quality, inclusive, publicly funded public education, in all its forms. We uphold teaching as a profession and advocate for adequate resourcing, labour rights, and social justice across Canada and around the world.
OSSTF/FEESO is currently seeking member candidates for consideration by the CTF/FCE for each of the following CTF/FCE committees:
- Advisory Committee on Diversity and Human Rights
Applicants to this committee can be from teacher or educational worker Bargaining Units. - Advisory Committee on French as a First Language
Applicants to this committee can only be from teacher Bargaining Units. - Advisory Committee on Indigenous Education
Applicants to this committee can be from teacher or educational worker Bargaining Units. - Advisory Committee on the Status of Women
Applicants to this committee can be from teacher or educational worker Bargaining Units. - Advisory Committee on the Teaching Profession
Applicants to this committee can only be from teacher Bargaining Units.
Guidelines and Term of Appointment:
- OSSTF/FEESO will review all applications to committees and will select one candidate to be forwarded to the CTF/FCE for their consideration for appointment to each committee from among all nominees from all CTF/FCE affiliate organizations;
- If selected by the CTF/FCE, the term of the appointment is two years, commencing in September 2024;
- If there is a call for members to fulfill vacancies on CTF/FCE Committees, their applications must be accompanied by confirmation from their Bargaining Unit president that release time can be obtained (at the expense of Provincial Office);
- Each CTF/FCE committee member is required to submit a written report, following each meeting they attend, to the assigned secretariat member;
- Committee members are expected to contact the assigned secretariat member regarding upcoming discussions and/or voting on controversial issues before CTF/FCE meetings and must, at all times, represent the interests of the Federation;
- OSSTF/FEESO will make every attempt to provide the committee member with any information that may have some relevance to the work they do as an OSSTF/FEESO representative on an CTF/FCE committee; and
- OSSTF/FEESO Provincial Office will pay for time release, transportation, and other costs to attend regularly scheduled meetings of the committee, as per the current OSSTF/FEESO Federation Activity Allowable Expenditure Guidelines, in coordination with the assigned secretariat member.
OSSTF/FEESO is dedicated to equity, anti-racism and anti-oppression, while protecting and enhancing public education. For this program, we are seeking applications from members of First Nations, Métis, Inuit, and equity-seeking groups. While self-identification is voluntary, due to the nature of the program, members will not be considered unless they complete the OSSTF/FEESO Voluntary Self-Identification Form.
