By-election called for Bay of Quinte—VOTE, VOLUNTEER, DONATE!
A provincial by-election, a crucial event for the Bay of Quinte electoral district/riding, is scheduled for September 19, 2024. This by-election, necessitated by the sudden resignation of long-time PC Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) Todd Smith, is a significant opportunity for our community to shape its future. Smith, possibly the shortest-serving Minister of Education in Ontario’s history, stepped down from his role on August 16, 2024, to pursue a position in the private sector.
The by-election will determine who will fill the vacant seat and represent the Bay of Quinte area in the Ontario legislature.
Candidate nominations closed at 2:00 p.m. on September 5, 2024; however, voting began on August 22, 2024, at the local Returning Office.
At a time when voter turnout is reaching historic lows, OSSTF/FEESO members living in the Bay of Quinte riding have a unique opportunity to wield significant influence over the outcome of the by-election. Your votes can help elect a fresh “education friendly” advocate at Queen’s Park.
Between now and September 19, 2024, members living and/or working in the Bay of Quinte riding are encouraged to get involved in the by-election by voting, volunteering, and donating to the candidate they believe will bring positive change and a new voice for their communities.
