Inclusive Education Study

OSSTF/FEESO remains committed to supporting research into diverse aspects of public education. OSSTF/FEESO is encouraging teacher and occasional teacher members to participate in a new study on inclusive education. Dr. C. Owen Lo and Gizem Güryil of the University of British Columbia are investigating the needs of students with giftedness across Canada. OSSTF/FEESO has not partnered on a study in this area before and there is relatively little existing research into this aspect of inclusive education.

The researchers are seeking to recruit teachers and occasional teachers for a mixed-method study looking at preparedness, instructional practices, challenges, and professional learning needs that educators identify as necessary for supporting students with advanced learning needs. All participants in the study will complete a 15-20 minute online survey. Those who are interested can also volunteer to participate in a 45-60 minute interview on Zoom.

The study will:

  • Help identify professional development opportunities and best practices for supporting advanced learners.
  • Contribute to evidence-based recommendations for promoting alignment between inclusive education policies and classroom practices.

Participation in this study is voluntary. Interviews will be conducted virtually and in English only. For more information, please see the attached flyer.

If you are interested in participating, or if you have questions about the study, please contact Gizem Güryil (guryilgizem@gmail.com).

If you have questions about this D/BU, please contact Chris Samuel (chris.samuel@osstf.ca).
