OSSTF/FEESO survey on De-Steaming

OSSTF/FEESO Survey on Teaching De-streamed Classes

Ontario is now five years into the Ministry of Education’s de-streaming of grade 9 and 10 courses. School board data and small-scale studies have reported mixed results, while OSSTF/FEESO has consistently raised concerns about the larger class sizes and inadequate supports that have accompanied the shift away from streaming.

To date, there has not been a rigorous study of teacher experiences in de-streamed classrooms. This absence of teacher voices severely limits discussions about the supports needed to ensure all students in de-streamed courses can be successful.

To overcome this gap, OSSTF/FEESO is asking all teacher members who have experience teaching in de-streamed classes (i.e., classes with a ‘W’ in the course code) in the last two (2) years to complete a short, 10-12-minute survey.

Participating in the study will help OSSTF/FEESO:

  • Capture teacher experiences to support collective bargaining
  • Support OSSTF/FEESO advocacy for public education
  • Identify gaps in how de-streaming has been implemented and strategies for filling those gaps.

Participation in this study is voluntary. The survey will be available in English only.
