The Ford government’s cuts to education will lead to a generation of uneducated adults who will be unable to go to university or college because they can’t afford tuition and will not have the entrance requirements, so they will be unable to find jobs which will increasingly require higher technical or scientific education and experience. So, who will pay taxes to sustain social programs as the population ages? People who support cutting 5800 teaching jobs because they survived a one room school with 50 students , poorly paid teachers and parents who disciplined their children should know that kids come into Grade One without ever having seen a book; parents do not discipline their kids; teachers are forced to break up fights in elementary schools where students are not only beating up other students but also attacking teachers; teachers are forced to photocopy books so that students will have texts to work from contrary to the copyright laws of this country; and that teachers who are thought to be so grossly overpaid now need a 4 year honours degree for subject areas and a 2 year teacher’s diploma, so 6 years in university to earn $90,000 after 10 or 15 years experience. One more year and they could be a doctor and earn 3 – 4 times as much for a lot less hassle. Ford is also intent on getting rid of teachers with degrees in Grades Kindergarten to Three. Apparently these Grades only. Need babysitters, although they are ears when children learn the most. Evidently Ford is uneducated and uninformed so the next generation of Ontario students should be too. Canada is rated third amongst countries in the world by the United Nations for the best education system, so Ford and his henchmen are proceeding to decimate it. S
