The Susan Langley Earth Steward Teaching Award

The Susan Langley Earth Steward Teaching Award, in memory of Susan Langley, former chair of Learning for a Sustainable Future, recognizes exemplary teaching contributions to sustainability education. This award will continue Susan’s important legacy of “empowering our children to change the world.”

This is a national award for teachers across Canada, with a special prize for Ontario, sponsored by the Ontario Teachers’ Federation (OTF). The winners of this award will receive $1,000, and runners-up will receive $500.

Nomination Criteria
Nominate yourself or another educator that you believe is making an exemplary contribution to sustainability education considering the following selection criteria:

  • What innovative approaches does the nominee use to create exciting and engaging learning opportunities to motivate their students to approach learning about sustainability and taking action to become responsible local and global citizens? In this answer, please focus on classroom/curricular learning rather than clubs or extracurricular activities.
  • How does the nominee serve as a role model and mentor to inspire students and colleagues to become leaders in sustainability at school and in the community?
  • How does the nominee engage with colleagues, students, parents, and community members in extracurricular activities towards a more sustainable future?
  • How does the nominee imbed Indigenous ways of knowing into their teaching?
