Equity Mentorship Program 2024–2026 Statement of Interest: Mentee

Have you ever wanted to get involved in your local executive or be part of your bargaining team or even to expand your network within OSSTF/FEESO and/or the wider labour movement? The Equity Mentorship Program may be right for you!

Goals of the OSSTF/FEESO Action Plan to Support Equity, Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression include addressing disproportionality and disparity in member engagement, participation, and representation as well as building Federation knowledge and union-specific skills to increase representation in leadership roles.

The Equity Mentorship Program aligns with these goals and is looking for members who:

  • are interested in advancing their leadership;
  • have participated in local Bargaining Unit, District or Provincial activities, initiatives, etc.;
  • are interested in expanding their knowledge of OSSTF/FEESO and the wider labour
  • movement;
  • want to unlock their leadership potential; and,
  • are looking to expand their network.

We are seeking up to 15 members who wish to be involved in this 2-year program as mentees. If you are interested, please complete and submit the Statement of Interest form to Loredana Merenda (loredana.merenda@osstf.ca) via email by May 16, 2024 at 4 p.m.

Members selected to be part of the Equity Mentorship Program must be able to secure release time from their employer. While time release for all meeting dates is paid for by the Provincial Office, applicants should verify with their local President that there are no restrictions for time release from their Bargaining Unit. Individuals who are selected to participate in the program will be notified, along with their Bargaining Unit President, following approval by the Provincial Executive.

Tentative timing commitments for 2024–2026 are up to 6 full days per Federation year.

OSSTF/FEESO is dedicated to equity, anti-racism and anti-oppression, while protecting and enhancing public education. For this program, we are seeking applications from members of First Nations, Métis, Inuit, and equity-seeking groups. While self-identification is voluntary, due to the nature of the program, members will not be considered unless they complete the self-identification form.
