Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) Application Call Out for Black and Racialized Workers

The Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) has grown to represent over one million Ontario workers belonging to more than 1,500 locals from over 50 affiliated unions, making it Canada’s largest provincial labour federation. OSSTF/FEESO participates in several OFL committees, and staff, provincial executive members, and members at large are assigned to these committees. It is our practice that following the convention, a call for committee representatives from the membership occurs. OFL committees meet three to four times a year in Toronto or via conference call during the regular work week. Provincial Office will cover release time costs.
OSSTF/FEESO currently requires a total of one volunteer for the following subcommittee:
The OFL is committed to challenging racism, prejudice, and discrimination in all its ugly forms within our movement and society. Respect and acceptance of all workers, regardless of race, colour, origin, culture, or religion, are vital to our advancement as a society.
Term of Appointment and Guidelines:
- The term of appointment coincides with the OFL convention cycle, starting in 2024 and running until the convention in 2025;
- Existing members sitting on a committee may reapply;
- Any member sitting on an OFL work group and/or committee seeking to run for the position of committee vice-president must obtain the approval of the Provincial Executive before the convention;
- If a member was elected to a vice-president position at the 2023 OFL convention, that member automatically sits on the committee for the term of office;
- If there is a call for members to fill vacancies on OFL committees, their applications must can be obtained (at the expense of Provincial Office);
- Each OFL committee member is required to submit a written report following each meeting they attend to the assigned secretariat member;
- Committee members are expected to contact the assigned secretariat member regarding upcoming discussions and/or voting on controversial issues before OFL meetings and must, at all times, represent the interests of the Federation;
- OSSTF/FEESO will make every attempt to provide the work group and/or committee member with any information that may have some relevance to the work they do as an OSSTF/FEESO representative on an OFL committee;
- OSSTF/FEESO Provincial Office will pay for transportation and other costs to attend regularly scheduled meetings of the committee, as per the current OSSTF/FEESO Federation Activity Allowable Expenditure Guidelines, in coordination with the assigned secretariat member;
- OFL committee members will be made automatic OSSTF/FEESO delegates to the 2025 CLC convention.
Applications should be submitted to Jinell Rahim by email to jinell.rahim@osstf.ca, with a copy to vanessa.stoby@osstf.ca by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, November 29, 2024.
