Keeping up with QECO
All OSSTF/FEESO teacher members are reminded to ensure they have an up-to-date QECO Certification Rating Statement. This document is essential for proper salary grid placement for both permanent and long-term occasional positions. Without it, members risk being placed in a lower pay category, potentially losing thousands in earnings over their careers.
Common reasons for this to occur include never applying for a QECO evaluation, failing to request a re-evaluation after earning new credentials, or not submitting updated statements to employers. The goal is to reach Category A4 (Group 4) as efficiently and affordably as possible—QECO offers guidance to help members achieve this.
Members should apply for upgrading advice or re-evaluation annually, especially if their qualifications were earned outside Ontario. Re-evaluation will never result in a downgrade. Applications and contact details are available on QECO’s website.
Importantly, members must submit any new rating statements to their employer promptly to ensure salary adjustments are made. Existing OSSTF/FEESO Certification Rating Statements remain valid unless replaced by a QECO statement. Submission deadlines and processes are governed by local collective agreements, and no member will be negatively impacted by changes to the certification program.
