First Nations, Métis and Inuit Advisory Work Group vacancies
The Provincial Executive is seeking to fill up to three (3) vacancies on the OSSTF/FEESO First Nations, Métis and Inuit (FNMI) Advisory Work Group for the 2024/2025 Federation year.
The role of the FNMI Advisory Work Group is to advise the Provincial Executive on any matters related to issues affecting First Nations, Métis and Inuit and other matters that may be referred to it by the Provincial Executive. FNMI Advisory Work Group members can serve concurrently on other OSSTF/FEESO Provincial Standing Committees, Councils, and Work Groups.
Criteria for Application
The Provincial Executive is looking for members who self-identify as First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit and:
- have strong expertise and knowledge in the area of First Nations, Métis and Inuit education;
- have worked with First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit communities and/or organizations in a professional and/or personal capacity;
- have knowledge and experience, locally or provincially, working on tasks/projects/committees or councils in accordance with OSSTF/FEESO bylaws, policies, or procedures; and
- be willing to work collaboratively with others.
Members selected to be part of the workgroup must be able to secure release time from their employer. While time release for all meeting dates is paid for by the Provincial Office, applicants should verify with their local President that there are no restrictions for time release from their Bargaining Unit. Individuals selected to participate on the work group will be notified, along with their Bargaining Unit President, following approval by the Provincial Executive.
The work group typically meets three times a year for one day in Toronto or via virtual meeting (Zoom). Provincial Office will cover costs to attend all meetings, including time release, transportation, accommodation and meals, as per Federation Activity Allowable Expenditure Guidelines.
Any member in good standing with OSSTF/FEESO interested in applying for the First Nations, Métis and Inuit Advisory Work Group needs to:
- Submit a brief letter that speaks to the application criteria and any other documents outlining their federation experience, work within Indigenous communities, and any other information they would like the Provincial Executive to consider.
- Please be as specific as possible with your examples.
