OSSTF/FEESO Province-wide show of solidarity with striking CUPW workers: Monday, November 25th, 2024 – 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.
As many members of OSSTF/FEESO know, national job-action has been called by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) with over 55,000 postal workers on strike as of Friday November 15th, 2024.
After a year of negotiations with “little” growth at the table, CUPW workers’ demands are reasonable. Fair wages, job security and safe working conditions for all their members.
- Wages: The union is seeking a 24% cumulative wage increase over four years, contrasting with Canada Post’s offer of 11.5% over the same period.
- Job Security: Protecting jobs against outsourcing and ensuring permanent roles for workers, particularly with the rise in parcel deliveries.
- Safe Working Conditions: Addressing the increased challenges faced by postal workers due the growing parcel volumes and the physical demands of the job.
- Fair Benefits and Retirement Options: Ensuring workers can retire with dignity and maintain comprehensive benefits.
CUPW is challenging the Corporation’s decision in creating more management positions and giving themselves huge pay bumps whilst arguing the need for workers to be paid less to deal with financial losses.
OSSTF/FEESO is calling on all members to show their support for these workers by showing up at a picket location on Monday, November 25, 2024, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. with flags, t-shirts and other items that identify you as an OSSTF/FEESO member. Because picket locations may change day to day, be sure visit to the CUPW Picket Location Website on November 25 to find a location near you.
CUPW members would greatly appreciate your support in the second week of their strike. Please consider bringing refreshments for the workers on the picket line.
Standing together strengthens all workers and reinforces our shared commitment to fair labour practices. Let’s show the power of solidarity!
